Check a source dose for a bird

Choose a medication entry to view matching source rows. Add a patient weight for clear oral or selected injectable dose calculations; product comparisons also need the strength of the product you have.

You can search medication and bird names in English. Source dosages and notes retain their original wording.

This is a reference and arithmetic aid, not a treatment recommendation. It cannot determine whether a medication is appropriate or safe for an individual bird. Consult an avian veterinarian or experienced professional rehabber before treatment.

Choose a complete entry from the suggestions. Formulations and brand variations are listed separately. The source dosage and notes retain their original wording.

Route filters check each source entry’s route and dose text. Injectable includes entries marked SC, IM, or IV. Topical excludes eye-use rows; Ophthalmologic / ocular includes eye-use rows but excludes eye injections.

Choose the form or container printed on your product to see available product comparisons or preparation examples. Leave “Not specified / other” to see source dose calculations without them. Presentation never changes which source rows match. Results flag route and presentation combinations not marked as typical matches. Packaging alone does not establish which routes are suitable for its contents; check the specific product label and professional guidance.

Enter the amount of the same active ingredient and dose basis as the source (including base versus salt), not the physical weight of a tablet or sachet. For a liquid labeled “100 mg/5 mL,” enter 100 and choose “mg per 5 mL.” For a sachet, enter active mg per whole sachet.

Leave weight blank to see matching source entries only, without dose calculations or preparation examples. Enter a positive weight and confirm its unit to see any available calculations. If you cannot weigh the bird, you can use an informed estimate to preview them. Calculations will use that estimate, so verify the actual weight before relying on a dose. For birds with a reported range, an out-of-range weight blocks all results.

Choose a bird name or group. A specific choice includes applicable broader-group entries; for example, ring-necked parakeets also match rows labeled Parakeets and Parrots. A broad bird group includes matching specific birds too. “Most species / most birds” shows broad and unspecified source rows. “Not specified / not stated (show all)” is the same as leaving this field blank: it shows all species rows that meet the other filters. Results keep the workbook’s original wording, including age, weight, condition, and subtype notes. Unclear source labels are treated as general references and do not appear as bird suggestions.

Check your entries and the source wording carefully.

Weight outside the reported range

Results cannot be shown for a weight outside this reported range. Check the number and metric unit, then enter a weight within the listed range. These references may not cover every age or body condition.
